Certificate IV in Community Services

 
 

CHC42015 Certificate IV in Community Services is a nationally recognised course and National Training Solutions delivers this course to learners who are employed or who volunteer in the community services sector and also to learners who are looking to be employed or who want to volunteer in the community services sector.

This qualification reflects the role of community service workers who design and deliver person-centred services to individuals and/or groups. Workers may provide support, advocacy or interventions to individual clients, groups or communities across a range of services. At this level, workers may work alone with limited responsibility and may be required to supervise and lead other workers in projects or teams. Work may take place in a range of community service, case work or case management contexts.

The course is also available as a two-year traineeship if eligible. Trainees receive workplace visits as arranged in consultation with the employer and trainee. If you are currently unemployed you are encouraged to undertake a period of volunteer work at a community services organisation of your choice to apply the knowledge and skills you have learnt and developed over the period of the course.

COMMUNICATION

This cluster focuses on communication skills and covers communicating with culturally diverse co-workers and individuals and groups who you will be supporting. You will learn communication techniques to build and maintain relationships with individuals, groups and work colleagues based on respect and trust. You will learn how to be cultural sensitive and cultural aware and will also be trained in how to resolve cross cultural conflicts.  You will be trained in reflective and active listening, how to demonstrate empathy and the ability to ask appropriate questions to build rapport and identify client’s concerns and needs when supporting individuals in the community and youth work context. Practical application will be required in this cluster.

LEGAL AND ETHICAL FRAMEWORK

This cluster introduces you to the youth and community services sector and covers the legislative requirements including the regulatory requirements when working with children and young people. This cluster will develop your knowledge and skill to ensure you are supporting and delivering services within a legal and ethical framework and how to develop and maintain networks with other services.

ASSESSING AND SUPPORTING CLIENT NEEDS

This cluster covers working and supporting clients holistically including loss and grief issues and will also cover how to assess client needs while maintaining and acknowledging clients rights and needs, You will learn how to respond appropriately when supporting clients who have lived experience of loss and grief.

WORKING IN THE COMMUNITY SERVICES SECTOR

This cluster cover the elective units of the course. Depending on selection, the electives can cover domestic and family violence, supporting clients with mental health issues, providing pastoral care and chaplaincy services to clients, planning and conducting group activities and working with young people in the youth sector.

Learner Support
