Certificate II in Community Services


CHC20215 Certificate II in Community Services is a nationally recognised course and is helpful if you are considering working in the community services sector. This qualification may be used as a pathway for workforce entry as community services workers who provide a first point of contact and assist individuals in meeting their immediate needs. At this level, work takes place under direct, regular supervision within clearly defined guidelines.

If you decide to enrol in the course you will learn, develop and apply the following:

  • Communicating with individuals and families who access community services
  • Working within the policies and procedures and code of conduct of the community
  • services
  • Working as a team
  • Following health and safety procedures
  • How to manage yourself including managing your stress levels
  • Providing the first point of conduct to those who come into community services

There are five core units you must complete and also 4 electives you can select from a group of electives depending on what area of the community you would like to work in.

The units you must complete are listed below:

CHCCOM001    Provide first point of contact

CHCCOM005    Communicate and work in health or community services

CHCDIV001      Work with diverse people

HLTWHS001    Participate in workplace health and safety

BSBWOR202   Organise and complete daily work activities


Some examples of electives you may select are as follows:

CHCCDE003  Work within a community development framework

CHCPRT001  Identify and respond to children and young people a  risk

FSKDIG03  Use digital technology for routine workplace tasks

FSKLRG09  Use strategies to respond to routine workplace problems


This qualification is currently being delivered in NSW and is listed on the Smart and Skilled subsidised training list. Check to see if you are eligible.

Learner Support
