Diploma of Counselling


This CHC51015 Diploma of Counselling qualification will develop your skills and knowledge to take on the role of a counsellor who supports clients with personal and psychological issues within an established counselling framework.  You will learn and develop your communication, micro counselling and interviewing skills and apply them using various counselling therapies, which will assist clients to reach their goals and meet their needs. 

We deliver the CHC51015 Diploma of Counselling using a blended approach. This means that you will complete your study in your own time and also attend six workshops spread throughout the school year. These are held in Sydney and are open to all students who can travel to Sydney to experience training, interaction, practical application of skills and valuable input from your trainer who has experience in the counselling profession.

When you achieve CHC51015 Diploma of Counselling, you would endeavour to work in defined and supported counselling roles within established agencies rather than in an independent practice.  There are 17 units in the CHC51015 Diploma of Counselling, including 13 core units and 4 elective units. These units are clustered into 4 sections and are listed below.

CHCCSL002 Apply specialist interpersonal and counselling interview skills
CHCCSL003 Facilitate the counselling relationship and process
CHCCSL004 Research and apply personality and development theories
CHCCSL005 Apply learning theories in counselling
CHCCSL006 Select and use counselling therapies
CHCCSL007 Support counselling clients in decision-making processes
CHCCSM005 Develop, facilitate and review all aspects of case management
CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
CHCDIV002 Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety
CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically
CHCPRP003 Reflect on and improve own professional practice

Course Options

Flexible commencement dates when enrolment process is completed.

Expected time frame for completion 2 years and is also dependent on level of existing skills and experience.

No pre-requisites, however to ensure that you are applying for the right course and the level that suits your learning needs, we request you to complete a questionnaire prior to your enrolment in this course.

Payment Options

Payment Options have been designed to suit your budget. The payment options available are as follows:

  • Instalments - Equal payments divided over the agreed period of training
  • Payment plans – Made up of the first instalment plus admin fee and remainder divided into equal monthly payments.

Learner Support

In addition each learner has the opportunity to discuss any learning barriers or challenges that may hinder the successful completion of the course and receive quality support to meet these barriers and challenges.
